Just lighten up.. and shoot

Every now and then I find myself wanting to go with bigger lights. Something like Alien Bee 600's. Michael and Andy from lightenupandshoot.com remind me that what I have is all I need to create stunning images. They also motivate me to just go out there and shoot.

I found them by chance on youtube as I was looking for videos of the Westcott Apollo setup features.

After I watched this random video of two guys in Columbia showing their "backpacker's studio," I was hooked. (video after the break)

I started off with the backpacker studio series, found the link to their blog, and it was over. 5 hours later Im reading and watching everything they posted, including the speed light series. I felt I learned so much from them in such a short time. It's as if I was in the Matrix, and my mind was injected with knowledge.

I've watched David Hobby's strobist dvd. I've read Joe McNally's The Hot Shoe Diaries. Both are GREAT  sources of learning material which I highly recommend. But something about watching these "two gringos in Columbia" just clicked in my head. Maybe its because of the previous knowledge I've learned that helped me have a better understanding on what they were talking about, like a refresher course?

One thing I can definitely say is that I am going to be following their blog for a while. They have me back to being content with my sb's. I'm going to be traveling light, shooting what ever I can. Unfortunately they also have me hooked on the idea of picking up a 28" Westcott Apollo from B&H Photo on Sunday when I head to the city for some street photography. (pending the weather)

The backpacker studio video that started my addiction.

As far as motivation, watch and read the stories about the Help-Portrait stuff they did. *tears*
